McHenry, on the east bank of the FoxRiver, is the gateway to the northern Illinois Chain O'Lakes recreation area. Homes in the McHenry area reflect the people's love of the great outdoors. Many beautiful homes line the Fox River and surrounding lakes. They border on golf courses, or are surrounded by shady oaks and hickories on quiet tree-lined streets, giving the residents of this small city a sense of country living. The Fox River, once an avenue of commerce, is now a haven for recreational boating. Nature lovers enjoy outings to over 30 parks, including Glacial Park, just south of McHenry, and Chain O'Lakes State park, which is a relaxing retreat for camping, fishing, boating, hiking, cross country skiing, and horseback riding. Employment opportunities abound in the McHenry area, with many large industrial firms which manufacture a diversity of products. Business and industry are assisted by excellent area community colleges, which provide employee-training programs. The public school system in the McHenry area is superior, with three public school districts, all wired for computer networking, so that students have access to computers and innovative learning centers, from the elementary level all the way through High School.
Remodeling and Renovations >Do Not Over Improve
You have received some extra money! You want to remodel! If you are planning a major renovation, take a few sensible precautions before having plans drawn up and signing on the contractor's dotted line.
Any time you do any significant remodeling, you run the risk of over-improving your home. Please call or send an email if you are interested in a market analysis of what your home is currently worth. We can talk about neighborhood trends and discuss the recent sales of homes in your area.
If your neighborhood is experiencing healthy appreciation, making major changes to your home might make sense. However, if there is not much difference between the prices of remodeled homes and those which have not been renovated, expensive changes may be hard to recover if you sell your home soon. Please call or send an email to get help deciding if remodeling and renovations are in your best interest.
